Blue Mountain Peak

If you love smelling the fresh dew drops in the morning, hearing birds sing with daybreak, and challenging yourself with an invigorating hike up a mountain with a slightly treacherous path, then the Blue Mountain Peak in Jamaica is an adventure that you can’t leave Jamaica without doing! Blue Mountain is known for its production of Blue Mountain Coffee, breathtaking mountaintop views and being home to numerous species of birds.  This 7400 foot journey to the peak can be attempted during the day or at night.  Many visitors choose to leave with a guide and a headlamp during the early hours of the morning in order to catch an amazing view of the sun rising between the clouds at the peak of the mountain.  Others enjoy a day of escaping the Jamaican heat during their hike up the shaded mountains, either way will lead to a fun and remarkable experience!

You do not have to make the trek up the entire mountain to enjoy the scenery.  There are some short walks as well that might be better suited for you and your group.  Besides the hike, some other activities that you can enjoy at Blue Mountain are an hour long tour of the Jamaican Blue Mountain Coffee plantation tour, bird watching, enjoying the sights and sounds of the waterfalls within the mountains and depending on the season you can enjoy French cuisine at the Blue Mountain Inn.

As with many hikes in tropical climates, the weather can vary and it is recommended that you layer your clothing. Drinking water, insect repellent, and a rain jacket or poncho are good things to bring with you.

Lime Cay

Get away from the heat of Kingston’s concrete jungle and cool off on the secluded islands of Lime Cay.  Located off the shores of Port Royal and accessible only by boat, Lime Cay is a peaceful refuge for visitors and natives alike.  During the week, you may be the only one on the beach, but during the weekend, your heart will pound while your body dances to the bass of dancehall and reggae.  A weekend party hot spot for many Kingstonians, Lime Cay has food and drink on Sundays only.  During the week, you must bring your own.  Please keep in mind that this piece of land is very unspoiled with no changing facilities.  If you’re a writer, be sure to bring your pen and paper and let the sound of the waves engulf you into your deepest thoughts.
